CHICAGO — WMG is pleased to present ‘Language of the Voiceless,’ an exhibition in memory of artist, friend and supporter, Nancy Hild, who passed on March 21, 2017 in Oaxaca, Mexico. In honor of and inspired by Nancy’s unbounded love of animals and her support for both women’s and animal rights, ‘Language of the Voiceless,’ juried by Nancy’s friend, artist Jeramy Turner, the exhibition includes 40 works by 26 artists from various US states and from Germany and Australia.
Included in the exhibition are video, photography, mixed media assemblages, collages, paintings, sculptures and installation by Eugene Borst; Alicia Criswell; Lea Goldman; Shirley Guay; Karen Hanrahan; Carol Hinote; Cheryl Hochberg; Tonia Hughes; Nancy Jackson; Natalie Jackson; Just Maya; Tory Keith; Emilie Lemakis; Alice Lister; Dora Natella; Jamie Neely; Kelly Neibert; Katie Netti; Niki Nolin; Anne Sayers; Helene Smith-Romer; Devon Thompson; Nara Walker; Liz Weinstein; Rebecca Wolfram; and Fulvia Zambon.
Juror: Jeramy Turner
Jeramy Turner is a self-taught artist, whose paintings are most often depictions of capitalists’ vulnerability. She has also a long history of running alternative cinemas, mostly in Chicago. Turner established the international radical feminist art collective, “SisterSerpents” in 1989, which Jesse Helms decried as a “hate group” against unborn children. Turner has taught and lectured on the conjuncture of political involvement in art and feminism at numerous universities and institutions in the US (Chicago, Boulder, Jersey City, Cornell).
Her work has been exhibited in London, Berlin, Vienna, Stockholm, Hamburg, Bergen, Norway, and at many alternative and university galleries throughout the US.
