ARTISTS STATEMENT
I explore themes of gender, sexuality, and aspects of my own identity in my work by using dye as paint and print in multidimensional surfaces. As a material, dye holds a strong conceptual meaning in my work. Dye can undergo many transformations of color, varied by time and processing methods to change the structure of the fibers. In this manner, dye is reflective of the queer experience, one of transformation and evolution with color as a unique language and identity signifier. I have discovered my own process to be queer in nature and function as a form of projection: I do onto my body of work what I cannot do onto my own. With deconstruction and reconstruction as key themes, I explore my queer need to take apart my body and rebuild it to be better suited for my identity.
