ARTIST STATEMENT
Much of my sculptural work aims to resemble bodies or organisms. I’m incredibly interested in transforming materials, and I have found this to be particularly exciting when it comes to fibers. I love turning soft, fluffy, gentle, and feminine materials into something uncomfortable and abject. There is a unique conversation that surrounds the presence of blood and a comforting material like felt or cloth in the same space, and what it implies. The goal of my fiber pieces is to blur the lines between the familiar body and fabric, thread, and beadwork. While my sculptural/fibers work is a large part of my artistic practice, I enjoy working in many different mediums, from painting to video to performance.
