I think the appeal of patterning lies in the pleasure to be had from repetition, and variety within repetition. Certain patterns have associations all their own. For example, one palette of color in camouflage indicates desert, and another, jungle or woods.

My camouflage series explores ideas of protection, deception and vulnerability and the blurring of distinctions between strength and vulnerability.
