Dis-Ease (Conflicting Forces)
conte crayon and chalk pastel on pieced paper collaged on canvas

The subconscious is a labyrinth of uncertainty that must be navigated instinctive response. Through the physical immediacy of the process of drawing, I can slowly find my way from chaotic confusion to expressive clarity. The anxiety of being lost is offset by the delight of finding some new understanding in the dimly lit recesses of my composition.

I gradually pull out organic forms and architectural structures: the remnants of forgotten places, catacombs, basements, mausoleums, junkyards, ancient ruins. These forms combine as a convoluted playground for the imagination. I brush the dust from my eyes, and I have arrived at my destination.
