How Many Hands Have Touched You Without Your Permission?
fabric, machine stitched, appliqued, quilted
29 x 19.5 in.

As an artist, I have struggled in how to respond to the social problems of today. This work is part of a series in response to the escalation of gun violence in the United States and the complicity of the NRA, and the growing awareness of the violence and harassment of women that is world wide. Although my usual medium is collage, the issue of violence, be it gun violence or violence against women, needs to be brought home and made personal, and a quilt seems to be able to do that more than a painting or drawing could.
