My work shares a part of me that only a few people know—my constant battle with depression and anxiety. Since being diagnosed in 2015, I have been seeking ways to bring myself peace of mind and hope. Those who struggle with either depression or anxiety know the almost impossible task of getting out of bed every morning or trying not to spiral/shut down due to seemingly minor setbacks. This description alone does not correctly express the pain, frustration, and physical ailments that are brought on by these mental illnesses. Through my own journey in coping, I have found to appreciate moments of “calm”…of nice and quiet “peace”…These rarer moments are what I hope to express through these portraits.
