ARTIST STATEMENT
I am interested in creating art that explores one’s relationship with femininity through masturbation, mutual encounters, and kink. These themes are conveyed through atmosphere and suggestion, as opposed to explicitness, giving them a playful, cheeky feel.
Historical depictions of sex portray women as passive and compliant. Hump Day combats the male-centered view of the female body as a sex object, serving as a reclamation of autonomy and sexual pleasure. It is soft, fleshy, and unapologetic. The rendering of the figure emphasizes each curve, opening, and tension.
The visual color palette leans into pastel tones — peaches, pale yellows, lilacs, and blush pinks — building up an ethereal, dream-like ambiance. Ultimately, Hump Day is intentionally ambiguous, leading the viewer to wonder if the depicted scenario is fantasy or reality.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Skye Terry (b. 2001 Baltimore, MD) is an emerging artist based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and a recent graduate of Millersville University. She holds a BFA in Art with a concentration in painting. She primarily uses watercolor, acrylic, and gouache to create her paintings. Her work delves into the intricacies of the human experience, capturing moments that range from intimate sexual relationships to everyday, mundane affairs. Through these themes, she seeks to highlight the beauty of our shared humanity.
