Doll Float
oil and mixed media
18 x 26 in.

My work is an exploration of creation through destruction using guns and canvas. I begin with a 12-gauge shotgun to shoot oil-painted canvas before I cut and reassemble the scarred, pocked pieces onto a stretched form with a staple gun. The high-energy process is a frenzy that gradually coalesces into a strikingly colored image with a highly textured surface. Each painting is a bid to viewers to look and consider. As with the world around us, the surface will not easily reveal the destruction that brought it forth.
