After being on Covid lockdown for many months, I found myself retreating to my comfy nest – our home. Depression sometimes overwhelmed me and I wondered if I still had a voice and if my opinions counted. My decision – to speak up no matter how many people try to silence me.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ruth G. Sikes is a self-taught photographer and assemblage artist whose images and assemblages have appeared in juried and invitational group shows locally, regionally, and nationally. She did not start exhibiting until the age of 65. At the core of her creative being is her assemblage work. Using a wide variety of media, she realizes her dreams, visions, and fears in these self-contained worlds. She resides in Chicago with her husband and is the mother of five and grandmother of 10.
