ABOUT THE ARTIST
Rhonda Urdang (nee Thomas b. 1953, Wahoo, NE) is an interdisciplinary artist who has been inspired by the intersectional feminist, nuclear disarmament, and peace movements. Her visionary art responds to historical and world events, when painting and the female artist are still being diminished, silenced, and erased. She is interested in making art that challenges the narrative.
Since founding Flagstaff Feminist Art Studio in 2014, she has worked in multiple disciplines including femmage, assemblage, book art, collage, digital manipulation, painting and experimental film. The impetus behind feminist art is to transform pressing environmental, political, and social issues into hopeful, solution-based educational content that drives action and positive change.
Her thought-provoking works have been shown widely in local, regional, national, and international shows in 42 states. She has won numerous awards for her experimental approach. Rhonda has lived and worked in Northern Arizona spanning four decades where stargazing has become a crucial aspect of her world on the Colorado Plateau. She continues to push boundaries with her work, inspiring meaningful dialogue and social change. For more than one decade, she has championed the work of strong womyn artists, providing a platform for creative expression, social discourse, and female empowerment.
