Tayo’s (she/her) recent work involves portals created within antique objects. These portals show worlds during states of growth, decay, peril or peace. The objects are chosen for their proximity to the home—these frames and containers may have been in someone’s home for decades absorbing sound, touch and memory. This allows the portals to reflect not only the internal state of the artist but also the years of memory within the object.
