ARTIST STATEMENT
“Time and Remembering” is a series of sepia-toned and hand-colored images housed in rustic, pine enclosures. Patterned papers, lacy textures and children’s playing cards quilt the shadowbox interiors. These trunk-like boxes suggest memory, loss and time slipping away. In this piece, I remembered a children’s game where children lose if they end up with the card representing an unmarried woman.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Recently I retired from my career job. From June 1992 – June 2026, I taught Drawing & Painting, Digital Photography, Darkroom Photography and Arts & Crafts for the Chicago Park District to both children and adults.
As a fine artist, I have received six grants from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and two grants from the Illinois Arts Council including a Fellowship in Photography.
I have exhibited my work in both commercial and collective galleries in Chicago and art centers in the midwest. I earned a BFA from the University of Illinois in graphic design, an MA from Columbia College in photography and teacher’s certification from Northeastern University.
