Earring Series: Deborah
acrylic, oil, wax on canvas
12 x 12 in.

I use color in my paintings that I feel have noisy or silent characteristics. I feel that visual art has the ability to create a type of resonance that can also be interpreted as sound. Recently I have painted the earrings of friends and family members. The earrings often come with written stories and histories that I use as inspiration for background color and texture. I think of them as people that I meet that visually change after we have repeated conversations or encounters. My earring paintings are small memorials to women who continue to speak through their memory.
