ARTIST STATEMENT
My work operates at the intersection of politics, mythology, and everyday life, drawing from a lifelong engagement with resistance, storytelling, and social critique. Influenced by the visual language of political movements, I am particularly inspired by the bold graphic traditions of Mexican printmakers and muralists, the “silent agitators” of the American labor movement, and the feminist assertion that the personal is inherently political.
My submissions relate to the theme in its inherent resistance to the current administration’s terrorist campaign against immigrants. I am a descendent of immigrants, the spouse of a first generation immigrant, and the teacher of students who are immigrants whose basic human rights are threatened by ICE. I am afraid and I am angry, but I also believe in the power of art to resist tyranny.
