ARTIST STATEMENT
My work lies between the seen and unseen world, whether that is the physical one we can feel with our senses or the spiritual one underneath. My signature motif of the golden pattern plays a crucial role in the self-discovery of these worlds and has become an extension of the manifestation of my inner voice. This pattern has traveled throughout my artwork as an intuitive instinct and silent embodiment of my interconnectivity to the earth. I use paintings, sculpture, fibers, photography, printmaking and narrative forms for this personal manifesto. Other motifs used in my work are body prints. The movement becomes an essential element of self-encounter and reflection. The process of the body prints is an introspective practice that allows me to create more intimate mirrors of who I am, and enables the sensation of freedom when creating onto the surfaces.
Recently, I’ve been drawn to use textiles in my work which invites the viewer to interrupt the meaning of the work through its material such as silk, polyester, and cotton. The physics of the textile material plays on my attempt to reimagine the use of space and communicate through its shape, form, and color. I’m interested in the idea of time and how time is both experienced in limited and unlimited forms of making, and how time can be captured in my work through my body prints and design. Thus, I am attempting to connect dots of dialogues of our societal (collective and individual) past, present, and future.
