ARTIST STATEMENT
History runs through us all. My maternal family’s lineage of determination survived persecution in Ukraine in the early 20th century, influenced my upbringing, and now drives my imagination for future possibilities. These mixed media encaustic works use historical documents, including pages from family recipe books, to illustrate intergenerational strength and the connections between past, present, and future.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Nadia Sawicki is a professor of law, encaustic painter, and a creator of three-dimensional works of nature.
