ABOUT THE ARTIST

Michel Flores Tavizón’s work navigates borderland discourses through the perspective of a Mexican transfronteriza, traversing the Matamoros–Brownsville border. Through printmaking, she reflects on identity, cultural mestizaje, and Americanization, often referencing the Nahuatl concept of nepantla. Nepantla is a Nahuatl term popularized by Chicana author Gloria Anzaldúa, referring to an in-between space. Flores Tavizón represents her perception of the border as an in-between space marked by political division and emotional isolation.
