ARTIST STATEMENT
Here you see some of The Bubble People. They represent a fun and silly way to depict human relationships, although just as in life, difficulty can be present. The works are so precise one would think they are prints or collages, but they are paintings made by a steady hand.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mary King is a practicing artist with a studio in Kenwood in Chicago. King’s one-person exhibitions include four at Denise Bibro Fine Art in New York and two at Woman Made Gallery in Chicago as well as one at The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Her work has been included in group shows at The Butler Art Institute , Albright-Knox Gallery, and Detroit Focus. Mary King earned a BFA from The University of Chicago and a MA from Western Michigan University. She studied advanced painting at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. King was awarded residencies at Kimmel/Harding/Nelson in Nebraska, The Vermont Studio Center, and Mother’s Milk in Kansas. Her work has been favorably reviewed by The Kalamazoo Gazette, The Ann Arbor News, Detroit News, The Detroit Free Press, The New Art Examiner, The Chicago Reader, The Chicago Tribune, and The New York Times. King is currently limiting herself to working in sketchbooks in anticipation of making new and different work.
