ARTIST STATEMENT
The image tells a story through a mosaic of documents, showcasing the struggles and feeling of limbo from immigration. By layering portraits with documents like asylum papers, maps, and birth records, it reflects the tension between movement and rootedness. These bureaucratic fragments both define and limit identity, revealing barriers to access and recognition.
The work questions outdated systems and highlights how something as simple as an address can determine visibility, stability, and the ability to build new roots.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
My name is Marie. I am a creative who is a cheese enthusiast and pop culture obsessed. I am chronically online making me an ‘encyclopedia of random internet things to friends, my head is filled with anything pop culture related (+ more). My Parents thought it was useless. Now, it’s ‘research.
Volkswagen thought small. I sometimes think a little big.
I aspire to change at least something for someone. Somewhere. Somehow. I believe that stories have power and great storytellers should amplify voices & inspire action.
