ARTIST STATEMENT
These paintings explore a quieter, often overlooked form of migration, the movement from rural farmsteads to distant cities in search of opportunity.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mandel Cameron is a Minneapolis based artist who has been showing her work for over 15 years. She paints primarily with acrylic, creating pieces that range from nature inspired imagery to vibrant abstract works filled with bold color, pattern, and movement. Her work has been featured in a variety of exhibitions, including the 65th Arrowhead Regional Biennial Show, a corporate group show at Senator Amy Klobuchar’s office, and the Kaleidoscope group show at Burl Art Gallery.
Many of her paintings begin with sketches and observations from the natural world, which she then reimagines through a loose, intuitive painting process. Working mostly on canvas, she layers acrylic paint to build texture and depth, using color blocking, energetic brushwork, and repeating patterns to create lively, dynamic compositions.
Alongside her nature-based paintings, Mandel also creates abstract works that explore playful color relationships and patterns. Her work is driven by a love of color, the rhythms of the natural world, and the joy of creating bright, bold, expressive paintings.
