ARTIST STATEMENT
I work with a variety of materials, chosen for their strong physical sensations. I am soothed by meditative, tangible actions, such as the winding of film, the dripping of paint, and the sensitivity of wet clay. These sensations kindle a sense of wholeness within me, and allow me to embrace the naturally fluid, sensory-based ways I perceive my surroundings.
My sculptures are wildly expressive, bodily beings with a strong sense of autonomy. I let my materials react to my touch, gently distorting them beyond their basic initial shape. My process mirrors the way in which all beings communicate, in search of authenticity and acceptance. They undergo change to be known, in the same way I affirm my own identity though testosterone injections and clothing. I am heavily influenced by my surroundings, the people I love, and alternative and queer subculture.
My work acts as self-portraiture. I’m fascinated by the ways all beings express themselves and connect with each other, and the transformations that follow. My work is deeply rooted in the universal longing for authentic acceptance, primarily informed by my experiences as a neurodivergent, queer and non-binary person.
