ARTIST STATEMENT
The discipline and structure of printmaking, specifically serigraphy and relief, feel like a natural extension of my long experience as a creative director, designing printed collateral and collaborating closely with commercial printers. I am drawn to printmaking for both its rigor and its unpredictability. Each line, layered surface, and pulled print represents a dialogue between intention and chance.
My imagery is illustrative and symbolic, often referencing historical periods that intersect with my cultural and familial narratives. Through this work, I seek to evoke sensitivity, tell layered stories, and communicate enduring ideas shaped by history and human resilience.
GRATITUDE A breakthrough in gratitude from within … Without the inescapable contrasts that swirl around us, how could we truly appreciate how blessed we are—sickness and health, emotional turmoil and peace, poverty and wealth, loneliness and oneness. From our chains, we escape. From our thorny vines, we untangle … Always, Always—if we remain open to our higher selves—there is growth.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I am a career Commercial Art Director and Creative Director in Chicago, transitioning from visualizing the ideas of others to materially expressing my own artistic voice. I was raised in Brooklyn, New York, and spent much time in my youth immersed in independent creative exploration. With the encouragement of my parents, I received more formal training through the Brooklyn Museum youth after-school programs, USDAN Summer Art Programs, which ultimately led me toward a creative path in commercial art. I studied at Iowa State University receiving my B.A. in Advertising Design in 1978. Over the years, I continued my education in Drawing, Design and Animation. After a decades-long career, I shifted my focus to developing a personal studio practice grounded in process, materiality, and historical inquiry. For the past decade, I have been engaged in an ongoing practice of learning and making, including study at the Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago. My work is grounded in printmaking, with a particular focus on serigraphy and relief. I am currently refining my visual language and deepening my practice, with the goal of bringing my work into broader conversation and sharing it more widely.
