ARTIST STATEMENT
In a time when women’s rights (and nearly everything else) are under attack, the act of artmaking is full of internal tension. I ask myself: Can art change anything? Does my work have to meet this moment? For me, the answer to both is yes. This work transforms an essential element of women’s healthcare—the tampon—into an unapologetic call to action. It claims an American icon as distinctly feminine, protests the dismantling of women’s rights in the U.S., and signals for resistance.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Though she’s always made art, Lisa discovered an urgent sense of purpose when she turned her camera on the news crews covering the Columbine shooting at her high school. That moment—witnessing the media’s voyeurism and the shaping of public narrative—sparked a lifelong inquiry into communication, power, and who gets to control the story.
Raised in Littleton, Colorado, Lisa studied Photography and Graphic Design at the School of Visual Arts in New York. She completed her BFA in Communication Design at Metropolitan State University of Denver, where she has taught and often speaks. Alongside her art practice, she runs the design studio Obsesso Processo, where she obsesses (in the best way) over bringing clients’ ideas to life. She’s exhibited in numerous group shows throughout Denver, was published in Create! Magazine’s 2025 Women’s Issue, and recently completed a mural at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
