ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a mixed media artist working in encaustic collage and acrylic painting. My collages are built from images I have photographed and illustrated, then fused in layers with encaustic wax. Each piece can be 10+ layers deep. I love the handcrafting process of heating and manipulating encaustic medium to create levels of translucency.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Lisa Marie Kwesell is an American mixed media artist. She has lived throughout the US in small towns, large cities, and rural countryside. Her work often references industrial imagery, having grown up in a post-industrial city with structures that once housed factories, coal mines, and steel mills. Her career spans a range of creative roles, including work a studio artist for The Metropolitan Museum, Christie’s, and artnet.com. She produces digital art for clients, including Apple, Google, and global ad agencies. Lisa earned her BFA in Illustration/Studio Art from Marywood University and has additional arts training from NYU, Pratt, and FIT. She exhibits nationally in galleries and museums.
