“AMERICANS AREN’T BOTHERED BY KILLING”
(HEADLINE NEW YORK TIMES, APRIL 8, 2003)

“AMERICANS AREN’T BOTHERED BY KILLING”
I am an American

lt bothers me

It sickens me

How have we become so callous?

Where are the headlines “STOP THE KILLING”

And “WHAT DID THE IRAQI PEOPLE DO TO US”?

Those were the words on my sign when I demonstrated against the war on Iraq.

What is the next headline going to read?

“AMERICANS AREN’T BOTHERED BY CORPORATE TAKE OVER OF IRAQ”

Or are we going to read

“AMERICANS AREN’T BOTHERED BY RIGHTS SUSPENDED”

Or will we read

“AMERICANS AREN’T BOTHERED WHEN BUSH CROWNS HIMSELF’

I am an American

Lt bothers me

It sickens me
