ARTIST STATEMENT
At the heart of my work, I’m attentive to the quality of Beauty, which I experience as an energizing force of Nature. Beauty, curiosity and mystery form a triad of qualities I find most captivating, and seek to evoke through art-making. Recurring themes—-variation and patterning, cycles of growth and decay, time and presence, and the ephemerality of living things—-are inspired by and drawn from the Plant Kingdom in particular. Seeds are life and art in their most compressed and inchoate form, out of which images and new realities arise.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Laurie Peters is a mixed media artist who investigates Wilderness—the external wildernesses that are part of our planetary treasure, and the internal wilderness of her own most intimate being. Each can be viewed as a portal to the other, and art-making a way of traveling between these liminal spaces. In the process, she hopes to express a sense of awe and care for both ourselves and all that is Other. Laurie currently resides at the far edges of Chicagoland, USA, with her human/animal/plant/mineral family. The power of art to effect and transform remains her constant through-line.
