ARTIST STATEMENT
I draw inspiration from the expressive color of Fauvism, the emotional language of Expressionism, and contemporary painterly abstraction, I transform everyday subjects into visual narratives that celebrate memory, place, and symbolism.
Working primarily in acrylic, I build surfaces through layered color, gestural brushwork, and intuitive mark-making. Visible evidence of the painting process is still an important part of the finished work, allowing spontaneity and discovery to coexist with careful composition.
Rather than pursuing photographic realism, I use heightened color and simplified forms to reveal the emotional character of a subject. My paintings are rooted in the belief that color can communicate emotion as powerfully as subject matter. Through expressive surfaces, symbolic elements, and an evolving contemporary aesthetic, I strive to create work that is both accessible and deeply personal.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Kerri Mangold is a contemporary American artist whose expressive acrylic paintings explore the intersection of memory, emotion, and everyday life. Influenced by the bold color of Fauvism, the emotional immediacy of Expressionism, and the enduring tradition of painterly mark- making, she creates works that transform familiar subjects into evocative visual narratives.
Raised in Wisconsin, Kerri discovered her passion for art in grade school, where a love of drawing and painting first took root. That early creative curiosity evolved into a lifelong artistic practice and led her to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she developed a solid foundation in both traditional techniques and contemporary artistic exploration.
Kerri has taken part in both solo and group art exhibitions, where her work stands out for its expressive use of color and contemporary approach to storytelling. She continues to develop a body of work that celebrates the beauty found in everyday moments while exploring the emotional and symbolic connections that unite us.
