Any attempt to recreate the sublime inevitably falls short—becomes idealized, pretty, nostalgic. A profound realization becomes a snapshot, an echo of itself. My recent body of work embraces this problem through employing the idea of “keepsake”. Wilderness landscape and wildlife imagery evoke the circumstances of my personal narratives. Materials, scale, and modes of display present a sense of reflection, preciousness, and material comfort. It is the dialogue between the material reality of these objects and the narratives and emotions they represent in which my interest ultimately lies.
