ARTIST STATEMENT
Lilith has been interpreted in many ways throughout history. I am drawn to her as a figure of strength and transformation, reaching into the mysteries of darkness while still touching the light. Lilith represents a long journey of healing for me. Having experienced myself harsh judgement and feeling misunderstood, I recognize something of my own journey in hers. In finding my own strength, I see hers. Through color, symbolism, and layered storytelling, I seek to create paintings that honor both the challenges and beauty of the human journey.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Katherine Kraus lives in a cabin in the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. She received a BFA in Fine Art and a MAT in Art Education from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She taught art in the public school system for 19 years. After years away from painting, she returned to her creative practice with renewed purpose, creating work that reflects healing, resilience, and personal discovery.
