Untitled (Self Portrait)
oil on canvas
26 x 18 in.

My work investigates and exposes the dark interior of self through the process of painting. The image is a stained remnant of a developed painted surface which is then scraped and wiped away with a painting knife. The isolation of self and the perception of that reality revolve around a tension between existence and self-preservation. Veils and barriers within self perpetuate this psychological distance. The portrait is a delicate yet ever present haunting portrayal of the inward and private state of mind.
