‘pussy’ is a piece created in rage. It began with a photo, THAT photo, the one of Gerri Santoro. It was what i had hoped to create when i made the mold for the life cast but I couldn’t hold the pose for the hours it took. Guess you have to be DEAD to keep that pose, so i splayed myself, like a piece of meat, like a crucifixion, like a broken ‘vessel’.
‘pussy’ began with the Santoro photo, but turned into a room sized howl, how the words of men in male spaces, in male places of power dissolves the fine line between word and action when used to perpetrate sexualized violence on the bodies of women. Like rape, like incest, like forced birth. It speaks for itself, making no apologies and pulling no punches, no quarter asked and no quarter given. It says look – LOOK – just come look, and SEE.
