Persistence of Memory
acrylic and collage on canvas
42 x 36 in.

The truth of sexual abuse is written on the body, it persists despite the passage of time. The person affected is subject to questioning about their own culpability, and doubts by others on the truth of what happened. An experience of abuse can be contested even by close family members. My acrylic and collage painting Persistence of Memory pictures a nude woman seated in an intimate space. It addresses the experience of aging in a body with the history of trauma undeniably present.
