ARTIST STATEMENT
My practice is centered around exploring the unique form making ability of clay for functional objects. I want the form to show off what clay can do best. This means pushing the bounds of structural possibility while the clay is wet; and capitalizing on the firing process to solidify that form into a functional object that does not rely on other reinforcements. All aspects of the light support each other functionally and decoratively. The two staggered light sources direct light from one opening to shine on the outside of the form while both illuminate the inside. This way the ceramic form gives shape to the light, and the light highlights the ceramic form. The hand dyed linen hanger takes its form by being wrapped around the curve and is strengthened by knotting around itself.
