Description

Red Bodies II visualizes the predicament women’s bodies post the reversal of Roe Vs Wade. In materializing the concept, I worked dark felt, red roving, torn-used saree cloth, red and black yarn, to create a limp dripping form, draped over a wire coat hanger, symbolizing the dark era of abortion rights. The felt form bearing rugged wide slashes of a sharp knife, carries within what’s left of the body gnarled veins, scars, running through the twists of remanent body. Shiny poly-monofilament threads that attempt to mend the wide gashes between the soft red bodies, hold dew drop-like sparkline forms and occasional red beads—refusing death.
