ARTIST STATEMENT
HLH Art is a world filled with animals, toys, skulls, folklore and interesting characters brought to life in vivid color on wood panels by artist, Heather Humbert. Her paintings tell stories, many of which are still unfolding in the imagery, waiting for the viewer to interpret. The viewer is drawn in by the droll humor and eccentric focus of her work.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Heather Humbert has been practicing art for 30 years and holds a degree in Studio Art from Lawrence University. Her background is in printmaking and watercolor, but her focus for almost two decades is creating original acrylic paintings. Heather has always been a strong supporter and advocate of the arts both personally and professionally. She spent four years as Arts Retreat Coordinator at the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center and five years in a lead administrative capacity at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. She coached junior and senior high speech and drama for four years and led several in-school art residencies. During the pandemic, Heather co-founded the Stick Figure Arts Collective providing online shows highlighting contemporary artists from across the globe. Heather served four years as the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA) building captain for the 2010 Artblok Collective and currently serves as Chair of the board for Minneapolis based non-profit Art is My Weapon. Heather is also a member of the Woman Made Gallery in Chicago.
