POP – PIES
ceramic, lights, mixed media
8.5 x 9.5 x 10 in.

This sculpture is part of a series of work that integrate my technical computer programming and artistic sides. A clay computer monitor contains a self-portrait with my hand over my eyes superimposed with poppy flowers. In the story “The Wizard of Oz” the main character Dorothy and her friends are almost prevented from reaching the Emerald City, and ultimately their goals by falling asleep from a magic spell on a field of poppies. Earlier in my life I felt “asleep” and was not moving forward to reach my goal as an artist. I designed this piece to illustrate my “sleepy-self”.
