ARTIST STATEMENT
My Metamorphic Seed work explores the transitions and impressions which occur within oneself over time, seeking to represent the inner experience of growth and development in relation to the outer world.
It begs the questions: “What is the impulse that I want to bring forward into this world?” and “What do I need to shed in order to reach forward and come to light?” I often reflect upon this series as I make decisions in life.
When I think of the cycle a seed must go through, I understand that there are necessary times for incubation, hibernation, hardening, shedding, letting go, and breaking through — all in order to come to fruition.
I initially intended the sculptural pieces to be the focus of this work. However, the process of transforming and photographing the forms in my own hands proved more therapeutic. It helped me envision the loving care and support of the earth in relation to the intention of a loving creator in forming me.
I often draw upon the rhythm and cycles of nature to make sense of the world around me.
