ARTIST STATEMENT

My work blurs the line between sculpture, performance, and activism. Primarily working in live performance, I consistently uses found objects, food, and interpretive data in sculptural ways to enhance and document patriarchal issues. Heavily rooted in research, I explores historical regulatory measures and how they have shaped our expectations of womxn in American society.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Erica Fitzgerald is a time based artist that uses performance, and activism to touch on difficult topics like identity, abortion, and the sexualization of the female body. She holds a BFA from the Art Academy of Cincinnati and is currently an MFA candidate at the University of Illinois.
