ARTIST STATEMENT
My work is in relation to the feminine and the body. I draw on traditional and non traditional elements of painting to do this. I prefer to use older, more historical materials to tie my work to the history of painting while understanding it is something entirely dependent on modernism. I am a woman making work about women, this is not something that was really popularized until relatively recently. All of the work I make stands on the shoulders of women painters who made this possible. My work might in material relate to some of the historical practices of painting, but contextually is entirely dependent on the modern world. I owe my life to the human body’s ability to heal and be healed. I strive to depict this moment of connection in my work. I am indebted to those before me, it is important to understand this in my work.
