ARTIST STATEMENT
The pieces I’m submitting, and in fact all of my works, depict my impressions of reality now, in this moment, whether it be my reality or that in the world generally. The inspiration for “Will They Use the Same Barbed Wire?” was a sign I saw a pro-Palestinian German protester carrying that read: “One holocaust does not justify another.” I was moved by the courageous acknowledgement and shaming message. Those are my hands and wrists tightly bound in barbed wire; my bulging skin was not enhanced in any way.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, I graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and attended the New England School of Design. I began as a painter, but after creating my first mixed-media piece, I felt truly liberated and at home in my art. Using whatever media I could find – even combining and enhancing photographs into something new – allowed me to experiment endlessly and develop as an artist. My work has been exhibited globally and in all major (and many smaller) US cities. For me, art is a path toward a place I hopefully will never reach, because I don’t want the exploration to end.
