ARTIST STATEMENT
Needle and thread are my drawing tools. I stitch on paper or other material by threading a fine needle, piercing the paper or material, and pulling a line of color into space. Laying the thread down, I create a relief, pierce the paper or material again and pull the thread through to repeat the sequence hundreds, thousands of times to color an area. Every stitch is a decision, an intentional gesture made in response to the materials, the emerging patterns, the overall composition that arises.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Dolores Slowinski is a lifelong Detroit resident. She returned to studio practice after 30 years as an arts administrator. Her work has been shown in internation, national, regional and local galleries since 2010. Her work has also been included in national magazines and international zines.
