ARTIST STATEMENT
I draw my imagery from the environment, events and circumstances that impact our everyday lives and how we make our own connection, because as human beings we look for these connections. The basis of the work is to follow the emotions extract symbols, marring the abstract with the figurative.
The work method is created with a mind to hand expression that can explode with the carving of the clay or board, and the intensity of the line; building a bridge between the visual and emotional feelings. This process may invite new meanings to symbols we have established relationships with, and take it to a new place, unveiling a new interpretation formed by familiar imagery and a zone for the viewer recall past connections while establishing new ones. This process helps me move forward, and perhaps the audience it captures.
