Traditions help us define ourselves within many contexts. Tradition is a valued thing. But a valued tradition can restrict a woman’s ability to grow and define her own roles. Older family members watch closely to protect / restrict. Societal rules can impact advancement and success or stagnation. The safety and protection women seek in their lives can also suffocate. Strength and a willingness to question our pasts help us define our own traditions.
