Love Me // Nickle
gouache on paper
20.5 x 15 in. (framed)
I am Charuka Arora, an alumnus of Domus Academy, Milan, Italy and at Pearl Academy, Delhi, India.
Born and raised in a small town (Agra, India) I was very early in my life introduced to the concept of identity and a miss of it. Spending a decade of living alone by myself, today, I find myself quarantined with my thoughts. With no touch at all.
Isolation is not a new concept for me. Lack of human touch has been very much constant in my life. Hence, I explore the concept of touch via my thoughts and resort to nature and its resources.
A soft touch of those ideas and my thoughts take me a long way. My works are a symphony of an urban woman’s (often myself) quest for her identity and the emotional and psychological impact of it, on her life.
Creating mosaics and compositions, journaling these thoughts and tales especially in context to the contemporary issues like gender, sexuality, environment etc. that play a predominant role in shaping of the woman of today and tomorrow.
Each piece can be seen as a scene that invites the viewer to stitch together their own narratives, drawing on personal experience and generating their own meanings. Creating a body of work that is visually linked to the shaping of our future. Through, an often missing voice- the voice of a woman.
