This piece, $45 worth of black heavy duty hangers anybody can get, follows the tradition of easily accessible protest art. The nine black hangers, the familiar instrument of illegal abortions, represent nine justices of a Supreme Court decision to restrict access to reproductive health care.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I am a Chicago conceptual artist recently relocated to Gainesville, Florida. I like to manipulate familiar images to alter their context, to change the way they are perceived. I work at a piece until it starts to feel self-aware. Most of my pieces tend to have political themes. I find there is a dissonance between the fun I have creating a piece and the emotion the final piece provokes; this tension brings these pieces to life for me.
