Using photo transfers, fiber paper, pastels, and paint, I layer the complexities of emotions surrounding death, loss and disease. I explore the dichotomy between pain and beauty, connection and separation, life and death. In the series, Sense of Time and Place, I use my mom’s snapshots, manipulating from foreground to background. I reconstruct her journey in relation to my own as I cut up and deconstruct my writing. Through this process, I search for the connections that enable me to hold fast to the belief that out of darkness comes light and that by facing our mortality, we find meaning.
