Description

ARTIST STATEMENT

Collage enables me to construct my own stories, I can freely upend ideas of patriarchy, tradition and expectations with humor. It’s a place of yes where I can decode internalized messages that have informed my experiences as a female; where I can create my own power.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Bridgette Bramlage is an emerging artist working in Chicago, Illinois. Her collage practice began in 2020 as a private narrative serial, seeded by pandemic realities which rapidly transitioned into a public creative endeavor. Presently, her collage pushes found prosaic ephemera to evolve from its functional, pedestrian origin into a new dialogue. Piece by piece, it’s a conversation with the world. A juxtaposition of society’s terrors, absurdities and attempted narratives that explore and expose the surreal aspects of feminism, trauma and power. Her artistic journey began with acceptance at Detroit’s Center for Creative Studies for metal-smithing and continues to be a self-taught exploration of new mediums. Exhibitions include a solo show at One River Gallery & School Evanston as well as group shows at The Martin, Fulton Street Collective and WomanMade in Chicago. Her works are also available at CKS Collective in West Town, as well as iD Chicago in Bucktown. Her art has been recently selected by Chicago literary magazine Boredom, Horror, Glory. In 2022 she will be an artist-in-residence at the Chateau d’Orqeuvaux in the Haut-Marne region of France.
