Fangirls know social media platforms better than most people. They learn the ins and outs quickly, figuring out how they can optimize their efforts best with each app update. They have the power to create and trend hashtags worldwide within a few minutes. They are the ones who make videos viral. They have their own language, communicating through their own constantly evolving digital slang. And they have an intense desire to be seen. They hack social media in clever, crafty ways which can often be overlooked and dismissed because it’s so easy to trivialize the young fangirl. Chicago-based new media artists Anna Russett and Nick Briz wanted to help them step up their hacker game by creating custom code that helps efficiently work towards one of the fangirls’ biggest missions: a follow back from one of their idols.
