ARTIST STATEMENT
The small works I am submitting reflect a more playful, exploratory side of my process. These pieces emerged not from planning, but from open-ended discovery—where figures surfaced naturally through play and curiosity. Each one found its way throug with no specific outcome in mind. They are joyful, instinctive responses to the act of making, and reminders of the creative freedom that comes from letting go of expectation. Whether working large or small, I embrace the unpredictability of the process. My goal is not to replicate what I see, but to uncover something new—something alive—within the paint itself.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I am a Chicago-based abstract artist working primarily in acrylic and mixed media on canvas, wood, and paper. My work blends elements of figure, landscape, still life, and abstraction—connected through a deep fascination with color, line, and form. I often begin with a recognizable subject, then deconstruct and reimagine it, building rich visual layers through spontaneity and intuition. I grew up in Ohio and spent over 30 years in the Washington, D.C. area, where I built a career in graphic design while pursuing fine art. Since 2005, I’ve exhibited and sold my work professionally, with pieces in private and commercial collections across the U.S. You’ll find me at Studio #601 in Chicago’s historic Fine Arts Building at 410 S. Michigan Avenue.
